A Deeper Dreed, the metal band from Suffolk (UK) draw influence from the roots of early heavy metal legends Iron Maiden and Metallica, mixing with modern hints from the likes of Trivium, System of a Down and Disturbed.
Formed in 2009 by father and son Simon and Cameron Spence, a long auditioning process began that saw them recruit guitarist Luke Browning. With many guitarist auditions in the pipelines and no drummers, Cameron took the plunge to be ridiculed for the rest of his life in his rightful place behind the drumkit. Soon after, guitarist Joe Bassett was recruited and finally in early 2010 singer Shaun Lotay completed the line up.
In 2010 the live metal scene in England struggled to provide for new bands without a fan base, so the band began their career by performing covers from their favourite artists. Keen to not be forever labelled as a covers band, the quickly band began work on writing and recording their first record, and in July of that year tracked the Masquerade EP.
Recorded in a friends back garden studio on a shoe-string budget in mostly single-takes, the band recruited producer Mark Mynett to mix and master their first 5 tracks ready for release. The record was then released online to major distributors via the band's own label ADR Independent Records.
Reviewers noted the varied influences on the record and were split on how to describe the music. Be it packed with plenty of grooves, an array of harmonies coupled and some good old fashioned headbanging, or a collage of ideas that needed some polishing - love it or hate it, the band simply wanted to get their music out and get playing shows.
Masquerade certainly helped the band get out on the road as an originals band. Whilst in it's infancy the band quickly gained a reputation for energetic live performances which earned them several regional summer festival headline spots and main supports with Voodoo Six, Gunslinger. Die So Fluid and Sweden's chart-topping Dead By April.
In mid 2011, the band parted ways with guitarist Joe Bassett and recruited Dan Mayhew, a friend of the band who had stood in as guitarist for the occasional show where a guitarist had other commitments. With Dan on board, the band began defining their sound and song writing and quickly began writing tracks that drew on the lessons learnt from the Masquerade EP.
Due to the continued demand for the tribute songs and not wishing to be known as a covers band, the same members formed a sister band Maidallica in 2011, which continues to raise funds for future recording and production.
Now in 2012, the band are currently writing a new record which they expect to release in 2013 and continue to perform as both A Deeper Dreed and Maidallica. |
